Plein Air Watercolor Class with Sketching Summits

Join Sketching Summits, in partnership with Catawba Riverkeeper, at Confluence South Fork (117 Center St, Cramerton, NC) for a "plein air" watercolor painting workshop on Saturday, May 24 from 10:00am-12:00pm, followed by a refreshing beverage at the Confluence bar (included in price). This workshop is great for beginners and experienced artists alike!

Participants will meet outside Confluence (117 Center St, Cramerton, NC) and receive a watercolor kit, paper, and brushes to use for the workshop. Heidi will lead participants along an easy trail to Goat Island, about a half mile each way. On the island, Heidi will lead a two hour painting session, instructing in how to use the watercolor medium, as well as focusing on the mental benefits of painting in nature. This is an exercise in both art and mindfulness. "En plein air" means "in open air" and is the practice of painting from observation outdoors.

This workshop is open to beginner and experienced artists.

Participants should be confident in their ability to walk 1 miles on both paved and natural surfaces.

Please wear appropriate shoes and clothes for walking, and bring water and a snack. You may also appreciate having a pad or chair to sit on for the painting portion as well as sunscreen and bug spray.

You are more than welcome to bring your own art supplies if you have them.

For $40, the art supplies will be provided for the duration of the event and should be returned afterwards.

For $70, you can keep all of your supplies, which will consist of a 16 color watercolor pan (paints made from natural pigment for environmental safety when painting in the outdoors), sketchbook of watercolor paper, paint brush, pencil, and watercup- perfect for continuing your creative practice on your own!

A portion of your workshop fee will go to support Catawba Riverkeeper!

The fine print: This workshop needs a minimum of 3 people to run. If the minimum is not met by a week before, the workshop will be canceled and a full refund will be provided. If your plans change, you may cancel your spot and receive a full refund up until May 21. If your cancel after May 21, you will receive a 50% refund. Any cancelations day-of (May 24) will not receive a refund. In case of rain or other bad weather, this workshop will be held inside at Confluence.
