Kayak around a historic small mill town! A scenic experience perfect for beginners and intermediates.

Paddle around the slowly flowing South Fork River through Cramerton, a historic mill town near Charlotte, at your leisure for 90 minutes with views of protected forests, small town charm and budding outdoor recreation opportunities. This beautiful section of river is perfect for beginners and intermediates alike.

Out-and-Back Self Guided Kayaking Experiences 

Start at Centennial Launch in Cramerton and choose your paddle:   

  • Upstream towards McAdenville and back (1.5 miles)

  • Around Goat Island Park and back (1.3 miles)

  • Downstream to Riverside Park and back (2 miles)


Cost: 

  • $25 per kayak rental

  • $20 per kayak rental for residents of Belmont, Cramerton, Lowell, or McAdenville 

  • 10% discount for Catawba Riverkeeper members

Rental Cost Includes: 

  • Single or tandem sit-on-top kayak

  • Life Vest

  • Paddle

  • Basic water safety overview

  • Basic paddling instruction on-land

Where to Meet: 

Confluence (117 Center Street, Cramerton, NC) in downtown Cramerton

Restrictions: 

  • Must be 18 years of age to purchase tickets

  • Must be 4 years of age to ride in a tandem kayak with an adult

  • Must be 8 years of age to ride in a single kayak with an adult in another kayak

    Thursday, Sept 21: 7pm - 10pm

    Experience the wonders of the South Fork River….AT NIGHT! Join us for a 2-hour guided experience that includes a 1.5-mile paddle from McAdenville to Cramerton. We’ll meet at Confluence in Cramerton and shuttle up to the McAdenville Greenway and Blueway Launch to start our evening river journey. Each Moonlight Story & Paddle will present a different tale woven from the night sky. You are welcome to bring your own kayak, canoe or SUP or rent a kayak and accompanying gear from us!

Private Kayaking lessons

Learn basic river navigation and become a more confident paddler!

Lessons are offered in various locations. You can learn to kayak or advance your skills! 

Kayak lessons are hosted by our professional kayak instructors. We offer private 1-1 and group instruction to improve your paddling technique, water navigation and overall comfort to enjoy different types of water environments in your boat. You can provide your own kayak and equipment or use ours.

Intermediate Flatwater – Refine your paddling skills for more comfortable and enjoyable kayaking experiences on lakes and slow flowing rivers. Approximately 2 hours.

Intro to River Running – You’ll learn basic river navigation and become a more confident paddler. Approximately 3 hours. 

Dates and Times:  Flexible based on instructor availability. 

 Locations: Various locations around the Catawba-Wateree River Basin. 

 Cost:  Private lessons are $75 per guest, Group lessons are $60 per guest (2-5 guests), 10% discount for Catawba Riverkeeper members
